Valve confirmed that their games engines ‘Steam’ and ‘Source’ are ready to make entry to the Linux in their blog post.
Valve finally put a rest to all the rumours and speculations in web by this official blog post. They are also looking for the possibility of moving the Steam client and Left 4 Dead 2 over to Ubuntu.
They had chosen Ubuntu for the debut as a linux distro for their experiment as it reduces the variability of the testing space and makes early iteration easier and faster. Also, they found Ubuntu is a popular distribution and has recognition with the general gaming and developer communities.
We have already seen EA Games making it’s entry to the Linux world by their games offering in Ubuntu Software Center and the huge success of Indie games in Ubuntu. These moves by the game giants clearly shows the popularity of Ubuntu and growth of Linux computing.
