The new polished Unity Greeter has been introduced in Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal and available through regular updates.
Unity 6.4.0 has been uploaded to the Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal repositories which includes a huge list of bug fixes. Also, this includes some new features such as the Dash previews feature. This feature allows you to right click applications or files in Dash to get a preview, along with some extra information which depends on the item you’ve right clicked.
Unity 6.4.0 also brings additional features like, by default switched on backlight toggles and Magic Lamp animation of Compiz which is known as Genie effect on Mac OSX for dash icons. These features may or may not be included in final version as the changes made are in development version and still in testing mode.
As we are anticipated, Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal is targeted to towards eye candy and more polished version of Ubuntu which is targeted to attract more users to Ubuntu.
