We all know that after 10.04LTS, Ubuntu embarrassed the evolving purple salad wallpaper. A softer and warmer mixture of Purple and Orange colour has been chosen and will be the default wall paper for Ubuntu 12.10. The wallpaper looks pale at it’s first look but it’s great with soothing effect on eye.

Also, Ubuntu 12.10 entered it’s first beta stage and the image is available for download at
The major changes includes unified Unity which doesn’t offer the older 2D version. The Unity 2D version has been dropped since all the users are using same Unity 3D version. If your device lacks the graphical power, then the Unity will be powered by the CPU itself. Unity is included with the preview feature with the newly added photo lens by default.
The other major changes includes the upgraded firefox 15, LibreOffice 3.6.1, Thunderbird 15 and Rhythmbox 2.96. Interested to take a test drive? Download the beta image from the above link. Let me remind you one more time. Ubuntu 12.10 is still in beta stage and not intended for production machines.
Oh forgot to mention! Don’t think to burn the image to CD as Ubuntu 12.10 image size will be 740-800 MB and you need to use either bootable USB or DVD. This increase in size allows larger packages and apps and more breathing space for developers.
